Dear Entrepreneurship Educators:
Happy New Year! Best wishes to you in the upcoming year.
I am new to this listserv, so allow me to introduce myself. My name is Curt DeBerg, and in addition to being an accounting professor at CSU, Chico, I am also an entrepreneurship educator interested in both "for-profit" entrepreneurship and "social" entrepreneurship, using service-learning as a pedagoy.
The purpose of this email is twofold. I have recently authored a manuscript that I plan to submit to AOM's Learning and Education journal entitled, "A New Accounting for Socially-Responsible Businesses and Social Entrepreneurs." I am seeking reviewers to provide constructive criticism prior to submission to the journal. Please let me know if you'd like to have a look.
Second, I am the founder of a program called Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship. Under the direction of their colleagiate business student advisers and "coaches", SAGE helps high school-age youth form the belief that it is possible for them to make the world a better place through entrepreneurship and community service. The SAGE experience begins with small-scale efforts by high school students, and provides them with an early taste of success. It also provides a stage where they can describe their successful business and social ventures to others. And for those students who are exceptionally creative and innovative, a national and world stage is offered. We are now in seven states and 12 countries.
SAGE is now an official part of the Chico State Center for Entrepreneurship. Thanks are in order to our dean, Dr. Willie Hopkins, for making SAGE an integral part of his entrepreneurship education initiative.
If the SAGE idea is of interest to you, please have a look at http://www.csuchico.edu/sage.
Two other things to note. First, we are currently working with individuals in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Angola and Germany to launch new SAGE programs there. Second, Entrepreneur Magazine will be including a SAGE article in its February 2007 issue. Keep an eye out for it.
May 2007 be happy, healthy and prosperous for you.
