Question regarding experiences with sabbatical / visiting

  • 1.  Question regarding experiences with sabbatical / visiting

    Greetings colleagues;

    I would like to get some feedback from colleagues that have experience with seeking visiting positions at other institutions (internationally) during their sabbaticals.

    Is there a defacto protocol? My reason for asking is that I've contacted a few institutions for my pending 2008 sabbatical (since I'm interested in both teaching for the new perspectives and in collaborative research), and am being confronted with expectations that I would fully fund the sabbatical (and by contribution, enriching the institution), or some similar derivation.  What experiences have others have?  You can respond directly to me and I'll be happy to compile and share.

    Thanks for any information

    Emeric
