The mission of The Journal of Leadership Studies is to publish leadership research and theoretical contributions that bridge the gap between scholarship and practice and that exemplify critical inquiry into contemporary organizational issues and paradigms. The journal promotes interdisciplinary and interorganizational inquiry, fostering dialogue that transcends industry- specific contexts and that explores leadership's role in improving organizational practices and human life. Published material in The Journal of Leadership Studies will include research-based and theoretical papers that explicitly address leadership in various social, cultural, and organizational contexts. In the broadest sense, submissions should employ social science approaches and epistemologies to leadership inquiry.
Audience
The Journal of Leadership Studies is intended for both practitioners and scholars engaged in leadership inquiry and endeavors. The audience for this journal includes scholars, business leaders, managers, administrators, and other individuals who seek to further their leadership understanding and competence. The Journal of Leadership Studies incorporates contributions from business, non-profit organizations, government entities, education, and health care; however, the emphasis on leadership theory and practice spans the boundaries between these settings to promote discussions that center on human activity and interrelations. Accordingly, material in this journal represents a wide range of methodological approaches and theoretical foundations of leadership.
Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be original work that is not under consideration by other publications. To be considered for publication, submissions must demonstrate focused inquiry intended to forward the conversation regarding leadership study; synoptic and summative papers are not appropriate for this journal. Manuscripts and comments should be forwarded to the Managing Editor as follows: managingeditor@phoenix.edu
Manuscript Preparation
Articles should be based on original research or theory of organizations and leadership. Papers should be written in a jargon-free, non-technical style accessible to leaders and constituents in private, public, and non-profit sector organizations, as well as academic researchers and educators from a variety of disciplines. The focus should be on leadership.
Format
Type all copy double-spaced using a font size no smaller than 10 pt. including references and extracts. Margins should be at least one inch wide. The title page should include the title of the article, the full names of the authors, as well as their affiliations, full addresses, telephone, email and fax numbers and a brief abstract. The authors' names should not appear anywhere else on the manuscript. An informative abstract of 200 words or less is required for articles. In the case of multiple authors, please indicate which author is to receive correspondence and proofs. Financial support may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgement section at the end of the article. To facilitate the blind review process, please make sure information about authors appears only on the title page. Spell out e.g., i.e., et al., to their English equivalents and avoid complex mathematical symbols when possible.
Organization and Style
All papers should include an Abstract. In general, the background and purpose should be stated first, followed by methods. Findings discussion and conclusions. This order may change depending on the nature of the submission. The style should follow the format described in the fifth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2005).
Citations and References.
Do not use footnotes. For literature citations in text, supply author surname and date of publication and include the original page number for each direct quotation and statistic. For example: Knight (1973) or Knight and Jones (1975, p.74). Provide a double-spaced alphabetized list of only those references cited in the text, using APA Publication Style. The accuracy and completeness of the references is the responsibility of the author. References to personal letters, papers presented at meetings, and other unpublished material may be included.
Figures and Tables.
Clean copies of figures should accompany the manuscript. Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors should provide camera-ready artwork (original illustrations or good-quality photographic reprints). Tables should be typed double- spaced on separate pages and table notes should be keyed to the body of the table with letters rather than numbers or asterisks. All figures and tables should have short descriptive titles, the figure number, and author's name and address. Photographs should be submitted as unscreened glossy prints (20x30cm.) digitized in the paper. If figures are submitted in color, it is possible to have them appear online in color, but they will be converted to grayscale for the printed issue.
Publication Process
After a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are asked to sign a letter of agreement granting the publisher the right to copyedit, publish, and copyright the material. The editor is responsible for proofreading each issue and will only contact authors if clarification is needed; copyedited manuscripts will not be returned to authors. Authors must ensure the accuracy of all statements-particularly data, quotations, and references--before submitting manuscripts.
Copyright
Upon acceptance, the author will be required to complete and sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement in order for his or her manuscript to be published. If there are multiple authors of a manuscript, all authors must complete and sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement. Completed Copyright Transfer Agreements can be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed to the following:
