As economic developers, rural developers, even technology developers... you are a social entrepreneur! (And not juast because it was the entrepreneurship field that launched social entrepreneurship (and sustainable entrepreneurship) - ten years ago at ICSB, LOL)
And here's why you should join me in doing the "happy dance" today
: Probably the most celebrated social entrepreneur (at least since Florence Nightengale & Jane Addams), Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank were just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for revolutionizing microcredit, starting in Bangladesh. I've met the guy & he couldn't be humbler. I think he is still scheduled to appear at the UN/Academy BAWB (
http://bawbglobalforum.org) event in Cleveland where several of us are speaking on social entrepreneurship,
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15246216/ Share this with your stakeholders -- that what you truly matters! (Sad to say, what's not in any of the stories today is how his own government fought him on this and when he succeeded, well, that was embarrassing to them and... sigh.)
Anyway.... So many on this e-list bust their butts daily to help their communities and to do the right things, the right way and for the right reasons, despite infernal politics and all those who claim "anyone can teach entrepreneurship", etc. This award says one thing:
You. Matter. Grateful to know so many of you,
Norris
