Assistant Professor
Organizational Behavior / Human Resource Management
The University of Vermont's Grossman School of Business invites applications for an Assistant Professor in organizational behavior (OB) and/or human resource management (HRM). We especially encourage applicants with research and teaching interests in entrepreneurship (e.g., corporate, environmental, family, international, social, sustainable, technology, etc.) and related domains (e.g., innovation and creativity). This will be a full-time, tenure-track appointment with a preferred start date in August 2017 - the start of our fall semester.
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced scholar who has earned a doctorate in OB/HRM or a related discipline (e.g., Management or Industrial & Organizational Psychology) and can demonstrate substantial ability to (1) publish high quality research (e.g., FT50 or ABS 4 & 4* lists); (2) teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly in one or more of our School's three interdisciplinary themes; and (3) contribute to our experiential initiatives, such as our Business Pitch Competition, Entrepreneurship and Enactus clubs, Global Family Enterprise Case Competition, and UVM's campus-wide Entrepreneurship Forum. Overall, candidates should demonstrate a longer-term potential to build the research reputation of the School, develop innovative new courses, inspire students both inside and outside the classroom, and engage with stakeholders both inside and outside of the School and University.
The Grossman School of Business is AACSB accredited and has 30 tenured and tenure-track faculty from multiple disciplines, augmented by very experienced, professionally-qualified non-tenure-track faculty. Our undergraduate degree program provides a distinctive focus on three interdisciplinary themes: Global Business, Sustainable Business, and Entrepreneurship. The School has two very successful graduate programs: the Sustainable Entrepreneurship MBA (SEMBA) and the Master of Accountancy (MAcc). Reflecting our school's entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit, our faculty actively collaborate in their teaching and research with faculty in other UVM colleges and schools, such as the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Robert Larner College of Medicine, plus the UVM Medical Center which shares our campus.
Founded in 1791, UVM is considered a "public ivy" and is consistently ranked as one of the top public universities in the United States. Widely known for its music and food scene as well as it's outdoor and adventure lifestyle (Outside Magazine and National Geographic), Burlington has also been hailed as a top technology hub (Forbes) and a city of the future (Business Insider). Furthermore, Burlington's vibrant entrepreneurial and high-technology ecosystem has been recognized by the National Science Foundation's US Ignite program, the White House's MetroLab Network and TechHire City programs, and the Kauffman Foundation. While located in the idyllic rural state of Vermont, our frontier paradise is only a two-hour drive to Montreal and a four-hour drive to Boston. In addition, Burlington International Airport offers direct flights to numerous North American destinations.
The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Applications from women, veterans, individuals with disabilities and people from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are encouraged. The University is especially interested in candidates who can actively contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Therefore, candidates should explicitly address this goal in their application materials.
Applications must be submitted through the UVM website www.uvmjobs.com. The application package should include a cover letter outlining one's fit with the position and the Grossman School of Business, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and plans, a statement of teaching interests and experience, evidence of teaching effectiveness and contact information for at least three references. Applicants with inquiries may contact the Search Committee Chair, Dr. Erik Monsen at erik.monsen@uvm.edu. Review of applications will begin on October 31, 2016. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
