    Assistant/Associate Professor position in Strategy/Entrepreneurship Strome College of Business, Old Dominion University

    The Department of Management in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University invites applications from qualified candidates for one (1) tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level starting in August, 2017.

    Position
    Responsibilities include teaching management courses (such as Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Management, Organization Theory) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research resulting in scholarly articles in top tier journals, and service to the university, community, and profession. Minimum qualifications for the position include: (1) an earned doctorate (by August 2017) in Management from an AACSB-accredited institution with emphasis in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, (2) evidence of a strong research agenda (such as publications in peer-reviewed journals and peer-reviewed presentations at national and international conferences), (3) evidence of effective teaching of management courses, and (4) training (coursework)/publications in Organization Theory.

    As the College has recently started offering its MBA and undergraduate programs online, we particularly welcome applications from candidates who have interest, expertise, and/or experience in online course delivery.

    Applicant may be considered for the Associate position if he/she has a significant track record of publications in high impact journals, and experience in:
    a) developing and teaching strategy and entrepreneurship courses in multiple formats at undergraduate and graduate levels, and
    b) leading entrepreneurship projects and collaboration with funding institutions, government agencies and business communities.

    University
    Old Dominion University (ODU) was founded in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary (W&M), ODU separated from W&M in 1962 and became an independent institution. Old Dominion University (ODU) is a dynamic metropolitan, residential, and research-extensive public institution with a student enrollment of more than 25,000, including approximately 6,000 graduate students, and nearly 1,500 international students. The university has over 800 full time faculty, of which 40% are female. ODU is a vibrant, collegial university committed to serving the region and the nation through it research, teaching, service and community engagement. A recent survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education found that responding faculty rated ODU as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for.

    The University’s primary campus is located in Norfolk, VA, one of the seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia, a major recreation area with a population of 1.7 million. Home to the world’s largest natural deep water port and third busiest port on the East Coast, the Atlantic headquarters of NATO, and Naval Station Norfolk, which houses the U.S. Navy and U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk was recently named a ‘Best City for Entrepreneurship’ by Entrepreneur Magazine. The Hampton Roads region as a whole is

    experiencing a surge in entrepreneurial activity through collaborative initiatives between the university and local businesses and government agencies.

    Strome College
    The College was named in June, 2014 as part of the Strome Family Foundation’s major gift to establish a multi-pronged approach to nurturing entrepreneurship throughout the university.
    AACSB-accredited in both business and accounting, the College offers a wide range of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs including business analytics, economics, information systems and technology, international business, public administration and urban policy, and supply chain management. The 105 FTE College faculty serve almost 2,000 undergraduate and 240 graduate students, including over 100 doctoral students. The College has recently started offering its MBA and undergraduate programs online. The areas of strategic focus for the college include Entrepreneurship, International Business, Port and Maritime Management, and Multi-sector Partnerships.

    Management Department
    The Department of Management has 14 tenure-track faculty, many of whom have leadership positions within the university, scholarly journals and the Academy. They currently include: Andrew Bennett, Paul Champagne, Diana Deadrick, Rachel Frieder, Bill Judge, Ryan Klinger, Steve Lanivich, Kun (Carl) Liu, Soo-Hoon Lee, Shaomin Li, Anil Nair, George White and Jing Zhang.

    The Department is actively involved in instruction at the undergraduate level as well as the graduate level (MBA program and doctoral program). The Department of Management has a collegial and supportive environment which oversees a vibrant doctoral program in Strategic Management. The department plays a vital role in supporting the college’s strategic focus in international business and entrepreneurship.

    (4) expected or previous dissertation completion date.
