The goal of this PDW is to explore the various ways that academics and practitioners can work together on research that addresses poverty alleviation. The intent is to learn from experienced scholars on how such partnerships are fostered as well as understand from these partners, their programmatic priorities and approaches to resource provision.
We have assembled a group of academics whose collaborations with practitioners have successfully been published in top journals. Likewise, we have brought together a group of practitioners who are actively involved in programmatic initiatives related to alleviating poverty and fostering social/economic development. We believe that active dialogue and collaboration between these two sets of individuals is key to moving the agenda forward on research and practice in this space.
Our session is geared towards providing the "how" – i.e., the tools, tips and techniques – to bring research ideas together with the foundations and academic centers that have a mission to support and implement new ideas. We also want to connect researchers with partners and fieldwork opportunities in break out groups with practitioners, facilitated by experienced scholars. There, you will get a chance to talk about your own projects and tap into expertise to maximize your chances of successfully pursuing your initiatives.
We encourage anyone interested in doing research on poverty alleviation to attend, from doctoral student to senior faculty to the merely curious!
