Dear fellow AOM members,
We are looking for volunteers to co-host this year's All Academy Practice Theme Committee PDW that is designed to connect the dots of scholar-practitioner collaboration at the AOM and lay the foundation for a robust and diverse community of Academy members who advance scholar-practitioner collaboration and practice-relevant research:
Connecting the Dots of Scholar-Practitioner Collaboration at the Academy of
Management: Setting the Basis for the Academy-Wide Platform
Program Session: 431 | Submission: 15361 | Sponsor(s): (PTC, ODC)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 6 2016 4:15PM - 6:15PM at Anaheim Marriott in Northeast Marquis Ballroom
There are currently many groups that work on interesting projects and initiatives, and this is an invitation for all of us to come together, get to know each other, and see how we can collaborate across our specific endeavors. This is quite a big task that gives plenty of opportunity for everyone to get involved in various ways: from sharing your perspective as a participant to taking volunteer responsibilities in the areas of data collection, data processing, data analysis, social media (including live streaming), and/or community building.
Contributing to this PDW as a responsible volunteer could be a great opportunity for those AOM members who would like to be actively involved in mapping various practice-oriented groups within the Academy and creating an Academy-wide platform to support knowledge sharing and collaboration among these groups.
If you are interested in contributing to this effort, please contact Fyodor Ovchinnikov from the All Academy Practice Theme Committee at f.ovchinnikov@evoleadinstitute.com and briefly describe your background and what attracts you in this volunteer opportunity.
We hope to hear from you soon!
P.S. Below is more information about the PDW and its sister event at the AOM:
Are you involved in a research/practice collaboration initiative or/and are you interested in contributing to practice-relevant research?
If the answer to that question is YES, then these two PDW are for you. These two PDWs sponsored by the Practice Theme Committee are designed to create one event. First, we will first explore the important aspects of translating research in to practice and of research/practitioner collaboration. We will then apply this knowledge for the specific case of the Academy of Management with the view of initiating the design of Academy-wide research application and research-practice collaboration platform. Both PDWs will take place at Anaheim Marriott in Northeast Marquis Ballroom one right after another, and we hope that many participants who are have the passion for scholar-practitioner collaboration will join us on Saturday August 6th from 1:00 pm to 6:15 pm.
Translating scholarship into practice: Which comes first: theory or practice?
Program Session: 361 | Submission: 10741 | Sponsor(s): (PTC, MED, MC, OB, OMT, ODC)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 6 2016 1:00PM - 4:00PM at Anaheim Marriott in Northeast Marquis Ballroom
This PDW will provide academics, educators, and practitioners with the opportunity to discuss and reflect critically on recent initiatives to bridge the scholar-practitioner gap and to inspire extensions of the AOM's current efforts to increase the relevance and usability of published research. We will discuss ways and means for closing the gap between management scholars and management practitioners that include strategies for using information technology, such as social media technologies, to link researchers and practitioner. This PDW is the continuation of a line of research from prior AOM Conferences and Meeting. It will build on the work of two very successful PDWs: 1) "Translating Scholarship into Practice: How can the Results of Scholarship be Translated into Action by Practitioners?" that was conducted at the 2014 AOM Conference and 2) "Translating Scholarship into Practice: Using the World Café Technique to explore the gap between scholars and practitioners?" that was conducted in 2015.

This proposed PDW aims to build a solid foundation for conscious design of an Academy-Wide platform for collaboration between management academics and practitioners. It addresses suggestions voted by many academy members over the last few years for increasing the relevance of the Academy for management practice, and aims to combine and leverage currently existing efforts to foster academia/practice collaboration. The PDW will use the World Café methodology to create a dynamic and highly engaging environment for organizing the existing knowledge, initiatives and experience of the participants. The PDW will provide an opportunity for participants to actively engage in creation of the collaboration platform and will be followed by an online platform designing session after the AOM Meeting to which all the participants will be invited.
We look forward to seeing you there.
