Family Entrepreneurship reaching out: an innovation lab PDW

    Invitation to pitch your research

Professional Development Workshop organized during the Academy of Management annual meeting in Anaheim. August 5th, 2016 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. room Malibu at the
    Hilton Anaheim.

    Chairs:
Céline Barrédy, Cristina Bettinelli, Clay Dibrell, Esra Memili, Kathleen Randerson, Lorraine Uhlaner

This PDW is the fourth in the series dedicated to Family Entrepreneurship (FE) which aims to connect entrepreneurship, family business and family sciences scholars. These PDWs offer a formal setting to ask problematic questions, discuss important ideas and craft a vision of this emerging field.  A tradition that the past three Family Entrepreneurship Professional Development Workshops (FE PDW) has spurred is an exchange of ideas, a sketch of a research agenda and identification of pertinent research designs borne from discussion concerning questions raised in the sessions.

Our goal in the 2016 edition is to 1) to invite scholars from other fields to connect with us and 2) to offer a platform to scholars who are developing or looking to develop very innovative research projects to "pitch" these ideas or projects to a panel of top tier scholars. The workshop will begin with a panel discussion featuring scholars from the fields of OB, OT and BPS: Raphael "Raffi" Amit, Maria Gondo, and Michele Williams. The chairs will act as discussant and stimulate discussion among the panelists and with the audience. Following this, the workshop will move into roundtable format so that a team of senior scholars can provide detailed feedback to the pitches. The focus will be on helping participants identify bolder research questions, enterprising research programs and innovative methods to find empirical responses. This session will provide first an excellent opportunity for students and scholars to link FE to other fields, and second to develop their research, gain new skills and insights, and build professional contacts with peers and senior scholars in the field.

Several calls for papers for relevant special issues are open; the editors figure among the panelists:
    -          "From Family to Families: Pushing Family Entrepreneurship Forward": Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Kathleen Randerson, Hermann Frank, Clay Dibrell, and Esra Memili.
    -          "Parenthood and Entrepreneurship": Journal of Family Business Strategy, Kathleen Randerson, Cristina Bettinelli, Alain Fayolle, and Alistair Anderson
