Quotes from 2015 PhD Academy Participants
"Participation in the PhD Sustainability Academy was one of the most encouraging moments in my academic life. During this four-day intensive workshop, I met wonderful mentors and colleagues who gave a very thoughtful reading to participants' research papers and shared insightful and constructive thoughts. I can definitely say that the Academy was the most valuable experience in my graduate studies."
-- Juyoung Lee, PhD Candidate, Sociology, Brown University
"This was hands down the best academic experience I have had to date during my PhD. The feedback I received on my project helped re-orient my research in more productive and more impactful directions, the participants and mentors I met quickly became supportive colleagues that help me navigate my PhD, and the overall experience was one extremely thought-provoking and fun. I would recommend this opportunity to anybody looking to make an impact through their research and interested in joining a community of like-minded scholars."
-- Simon Pek, PhD Candidate at Simon Fraser University
"I learned the most from listening to the feedback given to all of the other papers... listening to all of the feedback was my favorite part of the academy and has already had a significant impact on the way that I have been approaching new projects."
-- Jennifer Wang, PhD Candidate at Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources, Stanford University
"Basically, you lock yourself up with strangers and discuss research papers all day long. But it feels more like a weekend trip with good friends. And that is what I took from it: enthusiasm and insight for my research, and some dear friendships."
-- Julian Kölbel, Centre for Energy Policy and Economics, Department of Management, Technology and Economics, ETH Zürich
