TWO TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS
(1) ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR/HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
(2) ORGANIZATION THEORY/ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
SMEAL COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY
The Management and Organization Department in the Smeal College of Business at Penn State has two full-time, tenure-track positions open at the assistant or associate level: (1) organizational behavior/human resource management and (2) organization theory/organizational behavior. Strong preference will be given to candidates with publications in premier journals. For the OB/HR position, we are looking for an individual who can teach an MBA-level teams course. Specialty areas for both positions are less important than having a high-impact, theory-generating research program, as well as a demonstrated ability to connect with other domains of management scholarship and with other departmental faculty. Both positions require an earned doctorate. Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and experience.
The application deadline is October 15, 2006, or until the positions are filled.
Please send all application materials electronically (pdf or MS-Word files), including letter of interest, CV, selected publications, and three recommendation letters to (1)
obsearch2006@smeal.psu.edu , or (2)
otsearch2006@smeal.psu.edu .
Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and workforce diversity. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. To that end, qualified applicants at the associate level may be considered for the Donan Professorship. This professorship is designed to attract and retain members of underrepresented groups for our College faculty.
The Management and Organization Department comprises a group of active scholars whose work is diverse and often interdisciplinary. Our tenure-track faculty include: Chuck Snow (Chair), Kelly Delaney-Klinger, Jim Detert, Raghu Garud, Denny Gioia, Barbara Gray, Don Hambrick, Dave Harrison, Tim Pollock, Jack Stevens (Associate Dean), Gerry Susman (Associate Dean), Jim Thomas (Dean), Linda Treviño, and Wenpin Tsai. The department is consistently ranked among the top 5-10 most research productive in the world, and several of our faculty members have amongst the highest citation counts of anyone in management. Now and in recent years, we have had editors or associate editors at many of the most prestigious journals in the field (
Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes). We encourage collaborative research with other units in the College and across the university (e.g., Penn State has a top-rated I-O psychology program that includes the previous editor of
Journal of Applied Psychology).
With incoming Dean Jim Thomas, the Smeal College of Business continues to enhance its position as a premier business school. We have highly ranked undergraduate and MBA programs, a growing Executive MBA program in the Philadelphia area, and a vibrant doctoral program. The College recently moved into a brand-new building with a wide range of state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities, including networked labs.
Penn State is a major research university with approximately 40,000 of its 80,000 students located at the University Park campus of State College, a dynamic college town in the Allegheny Mountains of central Pennsylvania. Driving time to the major cities of New York, Washington, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh varies between three and four hours. The local airport has frequent direct flights to Philadelphia, Washington DC, Cincinnati, and Detroit. The quality of life in State College is rated by national publications as both exceptional and affordable. Cultural and recreational opportunities abound. Public schools are often rated as the best in the state and among the best in the country.
