Early Career Development Consortium
Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Anaheim, Friday, August 5, 2016
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2016 AOM Entrepreneurship Early Career Consortium.
The Entrepreneurship Division will sponsor an Early Career Development Consortium (ECDC) during the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Anaheim, CA. This consortium is specifically designed to meet the needs of those scholars who are early in their career such as tenure-track assistant professors and ABD's. The Consortium will begin with breakfast at 8:00am on Friday, August 5, and continues until 5:00pm. The consortium includes a reception Friday evening. Admitted applicants are expected to participate in the entire day's program.
Some of the leading scholars in our field will provide practical advice to help you navigate the tenure & promotion process, manage your career, and develop a successful research stream. Specific topics include:
· Why entrepreneurship research and teaching matters
· Career Strategies for tenure & promotion success
o Tips from assistant professors
o A Dean's perspective
o An international perspective
· Developing a research stream
· Tackling a revise and resubmit
· Managing research collaborations
· Writing to get published
· Professional standards and ethical issues
· How to teach (and still find time for research)
Participating scholars include, Howard Aldrich, Sharon Alvarez, David Deeds, Kimberly Eddleston, Benson Honig, Franz Kellermanns, Michael Morris, Rob Nason, and Dean Shepherd.
Finally, you will receive publishing advice from a panel of editors representing the leading journals in the field as they present their journal's mission and editorial policies. Journal editors include: David Audretsch (SBE), Ray Bagby (ETP), Gloria Barczak (JPIM), Joep Cornelissen (AMR), Marc Grueber (AMJ), Dev Jennings (ASQ), Tom Lumpkin (SEJ), Susan Marlow (ISBJ). Bill Schulze (JOM), Pramodita Sharma (FBR), Don Siegel (JMS), and Dean Shepherd (JBV).
The Consortium will begin on Friday, August 5, 2016 with a continental breakfast. Lunch will also be served. Following the consortium, there will be a joint reception with participants from the entrepreneurship doctoral consortium.
Thanks to the generosity of the Entrepreneurship Division, participation in the Early Career Development Consortium, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, is free of charge for participants!
This year's consortium is chaired by Michael Carney (Concordia University, Montréal) and Sharon Alvarez (University of Denver). The consortium will be limited to 30 participants and qualified applicants will be admitted on a first come basis.
To apply, send the following items as email attachments to Michael Carney (michael.carney@concordia.ca) with "Entrepreneurship Early Career Development Consortium" in the subject line.
1. A short (3-5 sentences) biographical sketch, which we can distribute to all participants.
2. A brief statement (3-5 sentences) of your research and teaching interests.
3. A current CV
