Workshop Title:
Taking Stock of the "How" Question in Entrepreneurship
Regsitration Code:
PDWVRKNS
Registration Deadline:
8/6/2016
This session brings together scholars who are interested in 'how' entrepreneurs create new organizations. Multiple streams of research have emerged for understanding 'how' entrepreneurs create new ventures using different perspectives, language, and terminology: e.g., entrepreneurial behavior, entrepreneurial action, entrepreneurship as process, and entrepreneurship as practice. Each perspective offers unique insights into the 'how' question yet they remain fragmented as each perspective emphasizes certain facets of organizational creation, while ignoring others. We believe there would be great value in taking stock of the 'how' question, by exploring ways these various perspectives may be connected in a common dialogue centered on understanding 'how' organizations emerge. This PDW will begin with brief presentations on four perspectives that currently inform our understanding of the entrepreneurial 'how:' behavior, action, process, and practice. Then, round table discussions will follow that will involve all participants in active efforts to compare and contrast insights and assumptions, identify areas for future theorizing and research, create possible collaborative efforts, and build an identifiable community. After summary presentations of insights generated from the round tables, a panel will offer additional thoughts and conjectures on the future of 'how' in entrepreneurship scholarship.
