    Hi John,

So I guess this is my first post to Entrep-L. Would you please put up an
announcement for a PSED workshop that the College of Charleston will be
holding in July? Text of the announcement follows:
    ------

PSED 101 Workshop at the College of Charleston, July 20-22, 2006
If your research has led you to look for
    • a nationally representative source of nascent entrepreneurs?
    • a nationally representative sample of people who are not organizing
    businesses?
    • longitudinal measurements of entrepreneurial performance?
then you should consider data from the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial
Dynamics (PSED). But before you try to use the PSED, do you know what this
    means?
    FILTER OFF
    USE ALL.
    SELECT IF (sysmis(cfphlag=1) or
    (cfphlag < 90)).
    EXECUTE.

If the answer is “no,” then whether you are a faculty member or a doctoral
student, you need PSED 101 from the College of Charleston! Complete
information is in a brochure available at
http://www.cofc.edu/~shaverk/psed101.pdf. Registration is free this year,
but to ensure close interaction is limited to the first 20 people who
register. Thanks to the Kauffman Foundation, a few travel scholarships are
available on a first-come-first-served basis as indicated in the brochure.
    -------

Thanks very much! Hope your summer is going well. Look forward to seeing
    you and Don in August.

    Best regards,

    Kelly

    PSED 101 WORKSHOP
Charleston, South Carolina: July 11-14, 2007

This three-day intensive workshop assumes that you have research questions
about the nature of entrepreneurship that you would like to answer using
the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED).
The PSED is a representative portrait of entrepreneurial activity in the
United States that identifies individuals in the process of creating new
businesses. The PSED provides systematic, reliable and generalizable data
on important features of the new business creation process including
information on the proportion and characteristics of the adult population
involved in efforts to start businesses, the activities and
characteristics that comprise the nature of the business start-up process,
and the proportion and characteristics of those business start-up efforts
that actually become new businesses. Thanks to funding from the
Kauffman Foundation, this dataset is available at no charge at:
    http://psed.info/
The PSED 101 Workshop does not assume that you have (a) any degree of
familiarity with the contents of the dataset, or (b) knowledge of how to
build syntax files that will answer the research questions you have.
You’ll learn how to write SPSS or STATA syntax files for creating
variables, checking data, correcting weights, performing analyses. You’ll
also learn the overall data structure of the PSED, the differences between
the phone interview portion and the mail survey portion, and the
information gathered in successive waves. Finally, under the individual
guidance of the instructors, you’ll learn how to construct the details of
syntax files needed to answer your own research questions. You’ll leave
with a CD containing the course materials, and with a personal copy of the
Handbook of Entrepreneurial Dynamics: The Process of Business Creation.
The workshop will be held in the Tate Center for Entrepreneurship at the
College of Charleston from July 11-14, 2007. The workshop is open to
faculty and doctoral students. For 2007, the PSED 101 registration fee is
$100. Thanks to support from the Kauffman Foundation, the first 10
registrants who need travel support will each receive a $500 travel
    scholarship.
To register contact Kelly G. Shaver by email at shaverk@cofc.edu.
