Associate Professor/Professor of Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden invites applications for an anticipated full time Associate Professor/Professor in Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
Chalmers University of Technology, founded 1829, is an entrepreneurial research university with a 1450 faculty-members and 11000 students, of which 3000 are master students and 1000 are doctoral students. Chalmers this fall was ranked number 14 and the only university in Sweden among the 20 top ranked "companies" ranked by Swedish engineers. Together with the business school and the medical school of University of Gothenburg, Chalmers through its department of Technology Management and Economics operates a renowned international entrepreneurship master program which includes students developing invention disclosures into technology-based or bioscience-based start-ups. In 2009, this education was ranked number one in Sweden partly due to its launch of almost 50 high-tech ventures since 1997 as part of the selected students' educational training. Ventures started within the education have an 80% survival rate.
The position offered is either a professorship (not holding a chair, in Swedish "biträdande professor") or an associate professor (in Swedish, docent). A professor (not holding a chair) may be promoted to a position of a full professor. The position is at the division Management of Organizational Renewal and Entrepreneurship, MORE, belonging to the Department of Technology Management and Economics. The division conducts collaborative research into the areas of strategic change, organizational behavior, open innovation and entrepreneurship.
The new position aims at strengthening our research into entrepreneurship and innovations. The research includes understanding venture creation from the perspective of a collective view on entrepreneurship. Of particular interest is the interplay between technological innovation, human/social factors, financial factors and market factors in the creation of new firms, or in the creation of new ventures in established settings.
The position is an investment into the strategic development of an evolving entrepreneurship research center. We expect applicants to have an interest to be part of a collaborative venture creation "laboratory" built around Gothenburg Schools of Entrepreneurship (GSE) that the division is engaged in.
Job description
The position as Associate professor/Professor is a full time permanent position. As a professor you are supposed to take a leading role in research and Ph.D education. The position includes teaching at all levels, initiating and managing research and other activities. Information about research and development and interacting with industrial, academic partners are important parts of the position. The teaching language is normally Swedish for the candidate level and English for higher levels, and for those reasons good skills in both languages are required. Non-Swedish speaking applicants thus will be expected to learn Swedish over a period of time.
Required qualifications
Prioritized qualifications are the following:
• Experiences from collaborative research with firms and with researchers from various fields. Accordingly we will prioritize applicants who have demonstrated their collaborative skills and have a track record of being productive team players (including history of strong co-publication) in addition to their individual performance.
• Applicants should demonstrate an ability to build research communities, lead collective research projects/programs, secure financing of research, supervise PhD-students, and coach venture teams, i.e. being a collaborative and entrepreneurial researcher/educator.
• We value applicants who enjoy teaching and have documented abilities clearly above average in terms of pedagogical skills. Courses at masters- and bachelor-levels are normally experience-based and the applicant therefore needs to be capable in such pedagogy.
• Personal involvement in venture creation is a merit.
The position requires qualifications at the level of Associate professor (in Swedish Docent-nivå).
