    Hi Everyone,

I was asked if I would collect and share the responses I received to this inquiry.  I did receive a couple of suggestions that I was asked to treat confidentially and have respected those wishes.  Otherwise, here are the ideas that I received.

Thank you to all the great colleagues who were willing to share ideas and suggestions!  This has been very informative.

    Cheers!

    SUGGESTIONS:

    Idea Jams:

With Idea Jams we usually set up 3-5 tables and invite students to come to the jam.  We typically "seed" 3-5 students that have interests in IT, apps, industrial design, etc at the tables.  Each student will stand up and give a 20 second pitch.  The entire event takes 2-3 hours.

    Charette:

A "charrette" is a week on a topic-usually a social topic.  For example we had a charrette on the "brain drain" from [our area] after graduation.  We sometimes assign students to groups.  We have also allowed students to give 30 second pitches on what aspect they would like to work on and let the teams form organically.  At the end of the weekend the teams give a 30 pitch on their solution.  We have done this for credit (1 credit) and not for credit.

    Market Square:

Our students host a sales event, called 'market square'  for student who have businesses.  We have found that this allows us to reach non-business students who are selling and interested in entrepreneurship. such  musicians (releasing an album), artists (making jewelry), bakers, and candle stick makers.

Entrepreneurial students seem to come out of nowhere to sell.  Start marketing in the fall, have 1 or two info sessions and have the event around Columbus day.

    Startup Weekend

The hardest part of starting up is starting out. At Startup Weekend, you'll be immersed in the ideal environment for startup magic to happen.

    Campus Competition-make money

You might consider organizing a campus wide competition in which you can arrange a winter/spring festival where students, particularity freshmen and sophomores, shall put up stalls and make money by selling whatever creative product/service they may want to sell within your defined rules.
