IFERA 2016 BOGOTA Call for Papers
The International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) and the INALDE, Family
Business Center, Universidad de La Sabana, invite you to participate in the IFERA 2016
Conference, to be held in Bogotá, 27th to 30th June, 2016.
Conference theme: “Narratives in Family Business”.
Family businesses offer a rich and multifaceted context in which to study a multitude of
individual-, social- and firm-level phenomena. As a qualitative approach to family business,
narrative inquiry can complement other, more established, methodologies and allow scholars to
enrich their understanding of family businesses. Narratives (or stories) can take many forms,
including anecdotes, biographies, autobiographies, news reports, and oral histories. Implementing
a narrative approach means studying individuals, the family, and the business, collecting data
through an analysis of their stories and experiences, and constructing the meaning of those
experiences.
x How can a narrative approach and method contribute to family business research?
x What can narratives offer to complement prevalent methodologies (quantitative and
qualitative, e.g. case study analysis)?
x What are the most relevant forms of narrative inquiry for family business research?
