    All,

Just a quick note in shameless self-promotion: My new book, The Problem of Production: A New Theory of the Firm, was recently released by Routledge: https://www.routledge.com/products/9781848935297 . It should be of interest to quite a few of you on this list, which is why I'm sharing it.

    The blurb:

The theory of the firm has been fertile ground for economists. Bylund proposes a new theory, rooted in Austrian economics, which examines the firm as a part of the market, and not as a free-standing entity. In this integrated view, a theory is offered which incorporates entrepreneurship, production, market process and economic development.

The publisher's official description of the book:

"This book develops a theory of the firm as an economic phenomenon with unique market value grounded in specialisation. In contrast to most existing theories, it places the firm within the context of the evolving market process and as a 'missing' piece of the puzzle of economic development, progress, and wealth creation. The firm here emerges as a means for the implementation of innovative productive solutions that cannot be brought about through market exchange.

This theory successfully places the firm as a function in the market process that helps us explain the dynamics of market progress and economic growth. It also separates economic from legal aspects and therefore produces a theory of the firm that is neither dependent on nor refers to the 'legal firm' (this separates the theory from many others). By doing this, the theory adds a new dimension to the economics of organisations, the economics of institutions, suggests increased applicability of microeconomic theory, and supplies a previously missing piece in the 'Austrian' economic theory of the market."

If anyone is interested in reviewing for a journal, I'd be happy to facilitate review copies through the publisher.

    Thanks for your interest!
