    Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship

     

    The Department of Management in the Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for a tenure-track position in Entrepreneurship at the Assistant Professor rank with a Fall 2011 start date. This position is part of a University-wide cohort hiring initiative in the area of Urban and Regional Transformation, and as such there are unique opportunities for the successful candidate to pursue integrative research efforts, collaborative projects and shared program/course developments within this cohort. The successful candidate is expected to promote entrepreneurship throughout the region, working with other faculty across various disciplines and with the local and regional business community. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach in the Craig School's undergraduate and MBA programs, conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Opportunities to teach in the Executive MBA and the newly-offered Accelerated Bachelor's in Business Administration program are available as well. The successful

    candidate will also have primary teaching and research interests in Entrepreneurship. In particular, we would prefer that the successful candidate have experience and/or applied interests in regional economic development.

     

    Current members of the Management Department are Professors Julie Olsen-Buchanan (Chair), George Vozikis (Reighard Chairholder), Timothy Stearns (Coleman Chairholder), Bill Bommer, Mark Keppler, John Moghaddam, James Schmidtke, Jia Wang, Rudy Sanchez, Brian Lyons, and Jill Bradley. Faculty of the Management Department are active researchers and many hold leadership positions in professional associations.

     

    The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is the primary facility for teaching and research in the areas of Entrepreneurship. The recently opened facility has 8500 square feet of space with 30 offices and work stations. Two venture capital companies are housed in the Lyles Center with over $50 million in investment capital. In 2009 Entrepreneur Magazine named the Entrepreneurship program as one of 12 "in the vanguard". This was attributed to a highly engaged relationship with the community and region that serves to foster entrepreneurial development throughout the Central Valley. Eleven courses are offered in Entrepreneurship through the Management Department and over a dozen courses in entrepreneurship are taught by faculty in other disciplines such as anthropology, geography, public relations, music, agriculture, engineering, culinology, sociology, and design.

     

    The School's location is in Fresno, the fifth largest city in California and is highly attractive to researchers interested in economic development, and technology related to agriculture, water, and the environment. Its unique location provides access to 3 national parks within one hour drive, 2 top quality ski resorts with 90 minutes, and within a 3-4 hour drive from Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Napa Valley, and Tahoe. A key amenity to living in the Fresno region is perhaps the most diverse ethnic population in the country, an affordable life style, and access to the looming Sierra Nevadas.

     

    An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or DBA) in Entrepreneurship, Management, or a closely-related discipline from an AACSB accredited institution (or equivalent) is preferred for appointment to a tenure-track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for continued employment in a tenure-track position the doctorate must be completed by 7/30/2012. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the doctorate prior to August 2011.

     

    Candidates are expected to demonstrate commitment to or potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence of interest in and potential for scholarly research is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred candidates will have teaching experience in Entrepreneurship We also value management/business experience.
