    The Simmons School of Management is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in entrepreneurship to begin August 2006 or January 2007.  The position is the prestigious Elizabeth J. McCandless Professorship in entrepreneurship.  The appointment will be made at the Associate or Full Professor level.  Candidates should have earned a doctorate and established a strong teaching and research record in entrepreneurship.  Candidates with published research on women and entrepreneurship and/or practical experience in entrepreneurship are preferred.  Expertise in related fields such as strategy, marketing or general management is highly desirable. 

     

    The Elizabeth J. McCandless Professor will lead our entrepreneurship program at the School of Management (SOM).  The program comprises courses in our MBA Certificate program in entrepreneurship and in our undergraduate program, research on women and entrepreneurship, a leading women entrepreneur speaker series, and an annual student business plan competition.  Our MBA Certificate program has been recognized by Fortune Small Business as one of the Top 10 innovative entrepreneurship programs in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">US</st1:country-region></st1:place> and the Coleman Foundation has awarded the program a three-year grant from its Entrepreneurship Excellence in Teaching Colleges program. The successful candidate will advance the national reputation in women’s entrepreneurship and is expected to provide intellectual leadership through continuous contributions in curriculum development, teaching, scholarship, and service to the women’s entrepreneurial community.

     

    The Simmons School of Management, the only business school designed specifically for women, has been educating women for power and leadership for more than 25 years.  The Simmons SOM has graduated 3,000 women through its MBA program many of whom now hold leadership positions in corporations, nonprofit institutions and the public sector around the globe. Approximately 20% of the MBA alumnae are entrepreneurs. 

     

    The School offers a rigorous and intellectually stimulating MBA program with full-time and part-time options; undergraduate majors in management; as well as executive education programs for women leaders and managers.  In addition, the SOM is widely regarded for its annual Women’s Leadership Conference, the northeast region’s premier conference for professional women, and for its innovative research center, the Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO).  CGO conducts research on gender dynamics in institutions, their link to effectiveness, and the conditions institutions need to create to ensure the success of women of diverse backgrounds.  Through its educational programs, research, and convening, the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place> is increasingly recognized as the center for women, leadership, and management in the country.
