    Dear all,

I would like to call your attention to the PDW:

" Recruitment of Members in New Firms: Sources, Matching, Churn, and Consequences"

at the AOM meeting in Vancouver that I am organizing with Reddi Kotha (SMU).

Time and location: Saturday Aug 8th, 8am-10am, and the Vancouver Convention Centre's Room 111.

    Distinguished Speaker: Olav Sorenson (Yale)
Speakers: Melissa Cardon (Pace), Phil Kim (Babson), Chris Rider (Georgetown), Tiantian Yang (Duke) and Bala Vissa (INSEAD)

Topic: Attracting new members and turning them into supporters of the new firm is crucial for the success of new firms. Given the liability of newness that plagues most new firms and information asymmetry between the firm and its initial members--founders or initial employees-- how is it that initial members coalesce in a new firm? How do factors such as geography proximity, kinship, demography, affiliations, and education matter most for recruitment of initial members, and to what consequences for the new firm?

Who should come? Everyone interested in entrepreneurial team formation, recruitment and retention of employees in young firms, HRM practices and leadership in new/young firms, family business, and research methods in sampling/causal inference on new/young firms. We especially welcome PhD students and junior researchers.

Structure: Our PDW brings together scholars with experience in designing studies and publishing papers on new venture member recruitment in various setting: high-tech entrepreneurs, nationally representative study of nascent entrepreneurs, population studies of entrepreneurship, and studies of recruitment in intermediaries like venture capital (VC) firms.

Each speaker will present a study that addressed a particular inference problem, the solution, and the open research questions in the domain. Our distinguish scholar, Professor Olav Sorenson will summarize the session and lead the interaction with doctoral students, junior scholars and experts in the area.

    No pre-registration required.

Don't hesitate to email me for questions or let me know if you are coming.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Vancouver.

    Best regards,

    Karl Wennberg, PhD

    Professor, Stockholm School of Economics

Deputy Director, Institute of Analytical Sociology (IAS) at Linköping University
