    Professional Development Workshop

     

    Responsible Management and Social Entrepreneurship Education: Governance and Pedagogical Innovation

    This workshop explores pedagogical innovations in responsible management education together with notable examples of responsible management practices. These will be presented in a series of concurrent roundtables, allowing participants a flexible range of choices. Responsible management pedagogical innovations include: cross-disciplinary community-engaged project emphasizing social entrepreneurship in a undergraduate capstone course (US); entrepreneurship course combining opportunities for traditional students and students with intellectual/developmental disabilities (US); social entrepreneurship project enabling interaction between domestic and international students (Brazil); cross-disciplinary course focused on developing sustainability-oriented startups (Canada); large-scale free online education initiative emphasizing women entrepreneurship (Brazil); social value creation MBA course empowering students to design and lead class activities (US); on-campus Social Enterprise Institute fostering social entrepreneurship (US). Examples of multi-stakeholder responsible management practices which can help enrich the education model include these initiatives: private sector initiative to create shared value by overcoming ideological differences leading to a peaceful and just society (Koreas); using big data to market to the bottom of the pyramid (Brazil); understanding the energy poverty trap (SS Africa); corporate role in securing poor-friendly infrastructure which enables sustainable mobility (emerging markets). In addition, the challenges faced when introducing responsible management into a university curricula and the rationale for studying poverty will be discussed. Building on faculty and practitioner experiences in different countries, the intent of this workshop is to foster the exchange of ideas and learning experiences to stimulate responsible management education research and practice, as well as help participants explore new responsible management education initiatives.
