    Dear Entrepreneurship Scholars:
I wanted to send you a friendly notice to alert you of two great PDW opportunities focusing on the  Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) at AoM this August.

The first PDW will review and discuss the ongoing global efforts of various PSED protocols worldwide (we currently have about 12 global projects in different stages).

The second PDW is a bootcamp style "data analysis" workshop to help new and seasoned PSED scholars learn the best practices/approaches to merge, analyze, and understand the PSED I, PSED II, and Harmonized PSED outcome transitions data file hosted at: www.psed.isr.umich.edu

We have the dates and descriptions of the two PDWs  that may be of interest to you listed below:

    1) Saturday, 08 August 15, 10:15AM-12:45PM, Room 215 Vancouver Convention Center
PSED Protocol: Current Projects Status and Potential - (Session #316)

The Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) research protocol involves identifying representative samples of pre-profit ventures and tracking progress until they are abandoned or reach initial profits. This empirical approach has provided the potential for exploring the core issues in entrepreneurship research: systematic descriptions of the mechanisms leading to new venture creation in representative national samples. As of 2015, PSED projects have been implemented in 19 countries and there are ongoing data collection initiatives in Australia, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. The session will provide a review of the current status of each of these projects, discuss opportunities for research and further collaboration among the ongoing projects, review the impact of this international research program, and conclude with an open discussion of future opportunities and challenges in research applying the PSED research protocol.

    2) Saturday, 08 August 15, 1:00 PM-3:00 PM, Room 216 Vancouver Convention Center:
PSED Analysis Using the US Datasets (Session #377)

The Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) research protocol involves identifying representative samples of pre-profit ventures and tracking progress until they are abandoned or reach initial profits. This empirical approach has opened up a unique new avenue at the very core of entrepreneurship research: systematic, large- scale study of on-going processes of new venture creation. Past experience has shown, however, that entry into the PSED datasets can prove daunting (the combined US dataset has more than 8,000 columns of information on more than 2,400 individuals) for researchers who do not have a long personal history with the datasets. The proposed PDW will provide initial training on how best to analyze the PSED data (using the US datasets as a model). Topics covered will include (a) the organization of the three US PSED datasets, (b) data cleaning for individual-level analyses, (c) proper weighting of the data to ensure national representativeness, and (d) issues that arise when the three datasets are merged for subsequent analysis. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring laptop computers, preferably loaded with SPSS. Participants who do bring computers will be provided with codebooks, questionnaires, and datasets (all of which are publicly available) and sample syntax files (not available on the PSED website).

Participants are encouraged to bring laptop computers preloaded with SPSS (or to download a trial copy of SPSS prior to the session).

For those participants who have other software (e.g., STATA, SAS, or R- we will do our best to provide references highlighting the corresponding syntax for the examples/procedures discussed in the PDW)

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. To register online, please visit https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg. Please contact the workshop organizer at shaverk@cofc.edu to obtain the approval code. The deadline to register online is August 1, 2015.
