    2015 ANNOUNCEMENT – Babson College

    Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship

     

            Babson College is inviting applications for the Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship.  We seek a global thought leader in the area of family enterprising with a significant and active research and publication record. We particularly seek a scholar who looks at family enterprises through the lens of the family as the primary unit of analysis, and whose work brings new perspectives to the study of family businesses. Candidates who integrate the connection between entrepreneurship and other disciplines, and who bring a global perspective to their research are particularly welcomed. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship or related discipline.  Applicants who consider family enterprising from disciplines other than management, (e.g. economics or social sciences), and who bring interdisciplinary perspectives to family enterprising are encouraged to apply.

            The Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship will also be a dedicated and successful teacher of entrepreneurship who will teach effectively to multiple audiences of students and family business leaders. Priority will be given to those candidates who also have experience working in family enterprises or other entrepreneurial endeavors (starting, owning or running a venture, corporate venturing, social venturing) or working with entrepreneurs (private equity, banking, policy, economic development). Candidates should be passionate and committed to family entrepreneurship research and teaching, be willing to collaborate with faculty from other disciplines, exhibit intellectual curiosity, and have a strong interest in curriculum innovation. Experience teaching in a graduate program, executive education, international program, integrated or distance learning program is highly beneficial. Candidates must be be tenurable as a full Professor upon appointment.

          Babson College is the home of the 70 country Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Program (STEP) program, with 40 university research affiliates researching family entrepreneurship, and the Diana Project that studies women's entrepreneurship. For 35 years, Babson College has organized the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC) and the Price/Babson SEE program for Entrepreneurship Educators. A variety of programs are offered internationally for practitioners, students and educators. Duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels, and professional service within the College and community.  The Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship will be a leader in Babson College's work on family entrepreneurship and will be an important member of the team building Babson's reputation for excellence in teaching and scholarship in family entrepreneurship.

    Position Requirements


    We are looking for an accomplished teacher/scholar with:


    • passion about teaching and a proven track record of teaching excellence and innovative curriculum development;
    • depth in scholarly expertise that will add to the intellectual community of the College;
    • willingness to lead and collaborate with faculty from multiple disciplines to design and teach courses in an integrated, cross-disciplinary context;
    • curiosity about and facility with technology and the possibility of teaching in a blended/online environment;
    • skills to navigate and embrace complexity, ambiguity, and change;
    • experience in teaching, service, and scholarship in ways that will enhance the college's commitment to diversity and inclusion; and
    • engagement as a helpful colleague who is committed to the success of Babson College.
