Entrepreneurship and/in context: Moving forward. PDW at AOM 2015

Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 8 2015 9:45AM - 12:15PM at Vancouver Convention Centre in Room 217,218,219

Entrepreneurship researchers have come to acknowledge that entrepreneurship happens in various
contexts and that entrepreneurship research takes place in specific contexts and communities and
that researchers, themselves, bring their own context to the research site. What does this context
perspective mean for research practices and paradigms, methodologies, theories and conceptual
approaches as well as for our understanding of the phenomenon entrepreneurship? We believe that it
is time to address the challenges identified by recent discussions on contexts and entrepreneurship
(research). With this PDW, we will work on developing practical implications from this context
discussion, both for our own specific research projects as well as for the community of
entrepreneurship scholars, overall. This session will begin with brief presentations on aspects of
entrepreneurship and / in context and will lead to round table discussions oriented towards
involving all participants in active efforts to develop this perspective into a community of
scholars who will work towards tackling the challenges involved in doing contextualized research
(and, ultimately, incorporate a contextualized perspective into our teaching as well). After
presentations of insights generated from the round tables, a panel will offer additional insights
and pull together the ideas presented in the PDW in order to move forward the debate on
entrepreneurship and / in context. By recognizing contextual issues through various perspectives
identified in the PDW, we expect to expand current theoretical approaches in entrepreneurship,
enhance methods for studying entrepreneurship, and, develop better training and practice.
