Colleagues!
The good folks at the IES (US Dept of Education) are very interested in helping people do great impact assessments. To that end, tbey have a FREE webinar series on methodology topics like this.
The last one I watched was decent so it might be worth checking out (only 1 hour) and joining their mailing list.
Experimentally yours ; )

> Upcoming Webinar! Designing Quasi-Experiments: Meeting What Works ClearinghouseTM Standards Without Random Assignment
>
> Join us on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET for a presentation on designing strong quasi-experimental studies to test the effectiveness of education interventions in schools and classrooms.
>
> Both randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs have the potential to meet WWC standards. While randomized controlled trials provide the strongest evidence and can meet standards without reservations, random assignment is not always possible. However, there are other ways to evaluate interventions and provide reliable evidence.
>
> This webinar will explain how to design and execute high-quality quasi-experimental designs (QEDs) with the intent of meeting WWC standards with reservations. The presentation will include guidance on key features to keep in mind while designing the study, information the WWC looks for in order to assess the study, pitfalls and strengths of studies we have reviewed, and common misconceptions about different types of QEDs.
>
> To register for the webinar, click this link. We also are interested in answering your questions! You may submit questions in advance of the webinar through the WWC Contact Us form. Questions also can be submitted during the presentation.
