    Pre-Conference Workshop Description and Focus

For most of its existence, ACAC has preceded the main ACAC conference with a Research Development Workshop. This workshop has been designed to help authors of research papers take their manuscript the final leg to a successful publication. In 2012 the National Science Foundation became a co-sponsor of the ACAC Research Development Workshop. The workshop was expanded, and sessions were added to the program that were designed to address the challenges faced by Ph.D. students transitioning to academic positions and establishing their research networks.

View the 2014 ACAC program for details on last year's Research Development Workshop »

With the support of NSF, the ACAC Ph.D. Research Development Workshop is able to underwrite all food and lodging costs for participants in the workshop. In addition, these students are granted registration fee waivers and given food and lodging support for their attendance at the main ACAC conference, which immediately follows the Research Development Workshop at the same locations.  The Research Development Workshop is open to late-stage Ph.D. students doing research related to competitive advantage with emphasis given to research focusing on technology strategy, search and learning in organizations, knowledge management, strategic entrepreneurship, and dynamic capabilities. Submitted research papers should be targeted to top academic journals in the student's relevant field. Papers may be taken from the student's dissertation work, but dissertations are not to be submitted. Ph.D. students wishing to be considered for the workshop should submit their paper through the main ACAC submission portal » which will open in early January 2015.

Pre-Conference Workshop Funding and Support for Students Participating

The RDW is limited to 24 students. Selected students will have all registration fees waived. This waiver will cover all conference supplies, all lunches Monday through Thursday, the Monday evening networking dinner, the Tuesday evening ACAC welcome reception and Georgia Tech dinner at the Buckhead Club, the Wednesday evening reception, and all coffee and refreshment breaks throughout the conference. The NSF will cover all lodging expenses and breakfasts at the Buckhead Intercontinental from Monday through Thursday for the selected students.  Students are only responsible for their transportation costs to and from the conference site and for dinner on Wednesday, May 21.

Pre-Conference Workshop Submission Process and Details

Submitted papers will undergo a selection process, NOT a formal review process -- so we will not provide reviews or other feedback on any submitted manuscript.

Papers MUST be submitted via the ACAC 2015 submission system

The submission system will be open as of early January

Papers MUST be submitted either in Microsoft Word or in PDF format.

In addition to their paper applicants should submit the latest version of the Vita and a letter of nomination from their dissertation Chair.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not attended a previous ACAC pre-conference workshop

ACAC and the National Science Foundation strongly encourage submissions by women, people with disabilities, and groups underrepresented in the sciences.

Students may submit multi-authored papers, but the student must be the lead author.  A second author on the paper will be eligible for the reduced registration fee of $150.  All others will pay the regular registration fee.
