    2015 Careers Academy

    Ready to move to the next level in your career?

    The FERC Careers Academy is designed to link you with current researchers in family business research, enhance your research program, and offer insights for individuals at every career stage. Applications are currently being accepted. (Due February 15, 2015)

     

     


    Background: Building on successful doctoral consortiums of previous years, the Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) is pleased to announce the first annual Careers Academy. This event will be part of the 2015 FERC, which will be hosted by the University of Vermont, USA. For more information about the conference, please visit www.uvm.edu/business/ferc2015

    Objectives
    :
    The FERC Careers Academy seeks to go beyond content designed solely for those engaged in graduate studies to include opportunities for those at all career stages with an interest in family business research.   We are particularly interested in facilitating opportunities to meet and interact with future colleagues, addressing some of the common career issues faced by academics at every career stage, and helping in the development of family business-based research projects. 

    Program:
    The FERC Careers Academy will include presentations and open discussions on a range of topics related to family business research and careers including: appreciating the distinctive nature and challenge of family business research, strategies for conceptual bridge building from mainstream management disciplines toward family business, the special challenge of publishing family business research and career development guidance.

    Academy Advisors & Speakers: The 2015 Careers Academy advisors and speakers include Jim Chrisman (Mississippi State University), Josh Daspit (Mississippi State University), Alfredo De Massis (Lancaster University), Clay Dibrell (University of Mississippi), Gibb W. Dyer (Brigham Young University), Kimberly Eddleston (Northeastern University), Peter Jaskiewicz (Concordia University), Nadine Kammerlander (University of St. Gallen), Franz Kellermanns (University of North Carolina), Rebecca Long (Mississippi State University), Mattias Nordqvist (Jönköping International Business School), Tyge Payne (Texas Tech University), Allison Pearson (Mississippi State University), Carlos Pombo (Universidad de los Andes), Becky Reuber (University of Toronto), and Pramodita Sharma (University of Vermont).

    How to applyFamily business scholars at ALL career stages are welcomed to apply. We welcome doctoral students, lecturers, assistant, associate, and full professors. The cost of the Careers Academy is underwritten by FERC; thus, selected applicants will be invited to attend at no additional charge. (Separate costs for FERC registration and travel are not included.) Interested individuals should apply before February 15, 2015 by submitting the following in one document file (either PDF or WORD):

     

    1. A cover letter including name, institutional/university affiliation, position (e.g., student, associate professor) and years of interest in family business research/teaching;

    2. A copy of current CV (maximum one page), including a complete mailing address;

    3. A list of 3 to 5 pressing career issues/questions categorized as research, teaching, service, or miscellaneous; and

    4. A half page personal abstract detailing research identity (who you are, what you do) and current family business research interests.

    5. Submit all materials before February 15, 2015.
