    Abstract

Implicitly and explicitly, the domain of entrepreneurship requires that we better understand people and their behavior in the entrepreneurial context. Psychology provides valuable insights with respect to individual entrepreneurs, including their perceptions, cognitions, emotions, motivations and values, as well as entrepreneurial (and/or ownership) teams. The field of psychology (encompassing, for instance, work/vocational, organization, social, cognitive, and experimental subfields), thus forms one of the foundational disciplinary pillars in entrepreneurship research. In spite of this, management and entrepreneurship scholars often have limited exposure to more recent developments in psychological research. Similarly, the majority of psychologists typically bypass the effect of entrepreneurial context on employees, directors and owners. However, psychologists are beginning to address this gap, with a renewed focus on psychology of entrepreneurship research. To further encourage such efforts, members of the International Network for Psychology of Entrepreneurship Research and Education (INPERE), a network of psychologists and entrepreneurship scholars formed in 2005, have designed the proposed PDW. The primary goal of this PDW is to foster greater communication and collaboration amongst psychologists involved in entrepreneurship research. A second goal is to inspire the broader management and entrepreneurship scholarship community to apply psychological findings and theories in their research. The PDW brings together an invited panel of top scholars to initiate the discussion, followed by roundtable interaction of all participants.

The PDW is scheduled on Friday, August 1st, from 10:45am until 1:15 pm at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, Philadelphia South.
