Does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach opportunity recognition?
I tried using James Fiet's Systematic Search system, but it didn't work
very well (probably due to my execution of the system). Any ideas folks
have would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to respond to the list-serve
    or to me personally (lclaire@ups.edu).

A bit of background about my teaching environment: I have just finished my
first year in a faculty job (whew!) and created a special topics course in
entrepreneurship my second semester here. I'm teaching entrepreneurship as
a special topics course in the fall, then will develop the course into two
different courses: Entrepreneurship in the Sciences and Entrepreneurship in
the Arts (if you have any experience here, please let me know). I only
have 20 students in a class and it's mainly bright juniors and seniors.
We're on semesters so I can spend a few weeks on opportunity recognition.

Thanks for the help. I have never posted to the list-serve before but I
love reading about things going on in our ent community.

    Have a great summer,
    Lynnette Claire

    Lynnette,

I am sorry to hear that you did not have much success teaching systematic
search. Don't give up on it. At the University of Louisville, we teach it
as part of our entrepreneurship courses at the bachelors, masters and PhD
level. By my count, so far, we have taught more than 900 students. We have
also tested it in three different non-academic settings with consistently
    good results.

In the coming months, there will be several articles appearing that will
report on some of these experiences.

    Best wishes,
