This PhD course aims to acquaint the PhD students with the process of theorizing and theory building in management research.
We start from the premise that it is critical for PhD students to master the process of theorizing and theory development from the extant knowledge and empirical data quite early in their Doctoral studies.
By the end of the course the PhD students will have gained skills and knowledge in (a) gaining sensitivity to theoretical development during the literature review process, and (b) analyzing and theorizing from qualitative data.
This PhD course attracts PhD students in their first eighteen months of the doctoral programme on the basis of the common issue they face, i.e., how to theorize and build theory in management research.1 To start the application procedure, please go to application section on the course website.
1 Priority is given to PhD students in their 18 months of their studies; PhD students beyond that time frame may also apply but their acceptance will be subject to the number of priority students.
Participation fee is 250 EUR. The fee will cover costs related to, for example, lunches, coffee breaks, two dinners, and course material. Each participant is responsible for his/her own travel and accommodation.
During the course, the PhD students will have the opportunity to have a one-to-one, interactive Q&A session with Dr Barney Glaser via live Skype from California.
The course is co-sponsored by the Oulu Business School and Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics.
The PhD Course is a programme run jointly by Aalborg University (AAU, Denmark), Oulu University (OULU, Finland), and Halmstad University (HH, Sweden) on a rotating basis.
