Call for Papers
Deadline: April 1, 2014
FERC is dedicated to developing a community of scholars interested in conducting research into understanding family firms and creating usable knowledge in this field. The conference of 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the inaugural conference held in Portland, Oregon in 2005. While the past ten years have seen tremendous growth in the quantity and quality of scholarly research on family businesses, nearly all that research has focused on the decisions of, and the interactions within, the family unit. Given the fact that family businesses are responsible for over half of the employment in countries around the globe, surprisingly little is known about the human resource practices of these firms. Thus, this conference has three purposes in mind:
1. Explore state of the art of research on the human resource practices in family business.
2. Increase our understanding of how the use of HRM practices influences innovation, growth and performance in family firms.
3. Provide opportunities for practitioners, family business leaders, professional advisors, and scholars to discuss the best human resource practices in family businesses.
With this in mind, the FERC 2014 Committee invites paper submissions in the theme – "Managing the Human Capital of Family Businesses"- and welcomes other research that can help us understand how family firms work, the challenges and advantages they have, and the uniqueness they bring to the economy.
Submission Guidelines
The format for submissions should be:
1. Submissions consist of extended abstracts of no more than 5-pages, excluding references and tables.
2. Microsoft Word Document, Double-Spaced pages
3. One inch margins, 12-point Font
4. APA 6th edition for References
5. Manuscripts must be submitted in English
6. Accepted papers will be presented in a poster format at the conference.
Please make sure the following questions are addressed in the abstract:
1. What is the purpose of this project?
2. What is the gap in the literature this project is hoping to address?
3. Why is addressing this gap important?
4. How does this project address the gap in the literature?
5. What is the methodology used in this research project?
6. What are some of the results?
7. Implications of the findings for research and practice?
