Here is the message I sent to John directly:

I have used very short articles, generally from The Economist, and students have had to write out the canvas and apply it to the case in the article. For example, one article was on the business model of the Professional Golfers Association.
However, I no longer run the tests, and instead just have small groups that I visit with apply the canvas to their own individual work. I don't find that the test really added any value.
