Tenure or Tenure-Track Faculty Position - Organization Theory and Entrepreneurship

Department of Strategic Management and Organization
    Competition No.  -   A103021888
Closing Date  -   Will remain open until filled.

The University of Alberta School of Business invites applications for a tenure or tenure-track position in the Strategic Management and Organization Department starting July 1, 2014. The position is in the area of Organization Theory and Entrepreneurship.

For an appointment at the assistant professor level, candidates must have, or be close to completing, a PhD in an appropriate field, with demonstrated potential to publish top-level research and achieve teaching excellence; appointment in the latter case will be contingent upon the completion of the PhD by an agreed-upon date.  Success in obtaining research grants and scholarly activities will also be considered.  Appointments at a more senior level (Associate or Full Professor) may also be considered depending on qualifications and experience.  For an associate/full professor appointment, we require a reputation for making high quality contributions to top tier journals and evidence of teaching excellence.  Proficiency in English is required.

Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting and publishing research in top tier journals, supervising graduate students, and service to the School's academic activities.  The School of Business has an energetic PhD program and the successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in its continuing success and development.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to our Innovation and Entrepreneurship MBA specialization.  This specialization addresses a range of skills and issues in innovation and entrepreneurship broadly, including those related to technology commercialization.  The position will also support research and outreach in the University of Alberta's Technology Commercialization Centre.  The Centre aims to enhance entrepreneurial education on campus, as well as engage practitioners and policy audiences in ways that raise visibility of our school in the wider community.

The Alberta School of Business is one of the world's leading institutions in business education and research.  Our vision is "Leaders from Alberta for the World".  Our mission is to excel and lead through research, teaching and external engagement.  In the latest Financial Times ranking, the Alberta School of business ranks 33rd for research globally, 9th among publicly funded universities.

We are one of the largest business schools in Canada with 75 faculty members, 2000 undergraduate students, and 600 students in our MBA and PhD programs.  For more information about the School, please visit our web site at www.business.ualberta.ca, and for more information about the Department of Strategic and Management Organization, please see www.business.ualberta.ca/en/Departments/SMORG.  The province of Alberta has a strong economy.  The city of Edmonton is a vibrant centre with just over one million people that offers the benefits of an urban lifestyle combined with high-quality schools, excellent public transportation and ample opportunities for recreation.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and is competitive with similar research-focused business schools in North America.

Appointments are normally effective July 1st, although a start date of January 1st could be considered.

Application packages should include curriculum vitae, samples of research, any available teaching ratings, and names of three referees who have been asked to send confidential letters of assessment. The competition will remain open until filled.
