PDW on "What's Holding Back Social Entrepreneurship?
Removing the Impediments of Theoretical Advancement" (#16437)
Academy of Management 2013, Friday, Aug 9 2013 12:30PM - 3:00PM at WDW Swan Resort in Swan 9
Abstract of the workshop: Social entrepreneurship is a dynamic field of research. However, the field is still in a pre-paradigmatic state (Nicholls, 2010) with little scholarly output appearing in the mainstream entrepreneurship and management journals (Short et al., 2009). Researchers have already suggested potential hurdles that might hold back the theoretical advancement of the field, including having no common definition for social entrepreneurship (Brock and Steiner, 2008), a lack of rigorous research (Short et al., 2009), and the use of monological narration (Dey and Steyeart, 2010).
The key idea of this workshop is discovering how to remove impediments that are currently limiting the theoretical development of the field and discuss new theories and theoretical combinations. Selected scholars will be invited to present their ideas for new theories. This will be followed by small group discussions that explore potential ways to improve social entrepreneurship research.
We aim to organize a thought-provoking and interactive workshop that will inspire social entrepreneurship researchers and academics from neighboring disciplines to develop the field of social entrepreneurship by "liberating" the field of some conceptual impediments.
