Entrepreneurial Opportunity-The State of the Debate and the Linkages to Management
    Program Session #258
    Saturday, 10 August 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Mockingbird 1
    WDW Swan Resort

    Objective and Context

The objective of this workshop is to offer a structured dialogue about the status of entrepreneurial opportunity with the individuals who are at the "sharp end" of the debate, with the dialogue curated by the journal editors directly involved in promoting, framing, and shaping the debate. For the audience, this will be an opportunity to more fully understand and appreciate the interest in and implications of the current debate concerning the question of entrepreneurial opportunity. For the panelists, the Workshop is an opportunity to disclose the intellectual heritage and theoretical roots of various conceptions of entrepreneurial opportunity; review key assumptions and important priors; and elucidate the implications of that conception for theory-building, empirical work, and practice.

    Format and Schedule

Panelists will articulate their position and approach in six-minute presentations, leaving ample time for the meat of the Workshop - dialogue between panelists and participants. This format is an opportunity to conduct (and model) generative dialogue about an active question in the field, enabling Workshop participants to explore areas of agreement and difference with the collective aim to move the conversation forward.

Our discussant, Roy Suddaby, will encourage dialogue within the panel and between the panel and the audience, and will close our conversation by presenting his perspective on why the debate around entrepreneurial opportunity is important to the development of the field of entrepreneurship and how it can inform the broader field of management.
