    Dear All,

I've been invited to teach International Business Issues in Tanzania, East Africa. Am soliciting for special topics, articles or text book that will make the course interesting and relevant for my students. Any ideas? Please share them with me.
    Thank you

Dear Josephine, if the goal is to get your students to think about ways cultures differ and give them some real examples, then I would suggest two books written by Marty Gannon. The first is a short paperback on the ways cultures and businesses differ. The second is a thick book with specific examples, over 30+ chapters, that highlight different attributes. I also have them do a major group project which involves analyzing a country and interviewing ex/pats.

    Good luck, Kim

    Hi Josephine,

I have taught that course a long time ago in that part of the world.  I go along with the suggestions given by Romie and Kim although I do not have current books to suggest because of the long time gap that exists. Sub-Saharan nations have such big diversity of  business and national cultures and so it is a good idea to emphasize  culture (business culture in particular).  When it comes to the Strategy aspect of it, I tended to use some of the competitive strategies of Western businesses and explained why.   I also discussed why and when certain entry modes are used since most African nations want to attract businesses (and they have tremendous potentials) but do not fully understand why they are not targets for those entry modes.  I believe imparting some of these ideas will help a lot.

    Best of luck.
