I'm considering re-tooling my Venture Finance course (MBA). Is anybody using any simulations in an E-Finance course? Any recommendations of simulations I should review?

    Thanks,

    Dear David,

I have received the information from my colleague, Dr. Philipp
Bubenezer, that you may be looking for a simulation in your Venture
    Finance course!

I am very proud to inform you of an entrepreneurship simulation/game
that I, together with a Canadian Professor colleague, will launch to
the business education market in May to help all of us teach
entrepreneurship better. The game is called ‘’TRACTION’’ and we are
currently finishing trialing it. TRACTION has been in development for
almost two years and promises to be a great tool, and the first of
    many similar-such games/products.

I would very much look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

    Best regards,
    Juris Ulmanis, PhD

    Hello Juris

I received this email from David Deeds – maybe he is interested in
your tool? I have no immediate need for a tool on my side, but will
    check with the master program.

Do you have word from SCIEX? The decision should have been taken yesterday.

    Best

    Philipp

    Dear David,

I have created a series of simulations based upon a new venture scenario where student teams start up a new business and run it for 6 to 8 decision periods (business quarters). The simulation is called, Marketplace.

All of the scenarios include the preparation of a business plan at the mid point of the exercise. The students prepare a strategic plan, including detailed tactical decisions and pro forma financial projections through to the end of exercise.

In many cases, faculty have the students present their business plan to outside investors and negotiate an equity infusion in the company. There is also the opportunity to use debt if capital structure is an important consideration.

At the end of the exercise, we like to invite the investors back in the role of the Board of Directors for a report on how well the plan was executed, the departures from the plan and their justification, the performance to date (including the return to the investors), and the plans for the future.

The teams are provided with all of the normal financial information that you might expect plus lots of marketing and operational information.

To learn more about the simulation, please visit the following web site:

    marketplace-live.com

I also have created lots of assessment tools that you might find helpful. Feel free to contact me directly.
