    Center for Health Systems Innovation

    The School of Entrepreneurship, the Spears School of Business, and the Center for Health Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for Executive Director of the newly formed Center for Health Systems Innovation.  Candidates must have research, teaching and service interests in health systems innovation and a proven record of leadership.  Oklahoma State University is a land-grant university.  The Spears School of Business is a leading business school located in Stillwater, OK. The Center for Health Sciences, which is based in Tulsa, OK, consists of the School of Forensic Science, the School of Biomedical Science, the School of Healthcare Administration, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and related programs and clinics.  The newly formed Center for Health Systems Innovation will be located in Stillwater with a branch location planned for Tulsa.

    The vision for the Center for Health Systems Innovation is to become a leading conduit to discover and implement market-based solutions for the transformation of health care and health care systems through creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.  The center will resemble a think tank and will produce white papers, academic articles, articles that will be published in practitioner outlets, and related material and initiatives in the health care systems domain.  Initially, the center will rely heavily on a mix of visiting scholars, and practitioners who work with the center on a virtual basis, and post-doctoral fellows.  The center will also sponsor and coordinate two health care conferences on a yearly basis, and may publish its own academic journal.  The key focus of the center will be a systems approach to business model innovation using information and communication as key enablers.

    Job Summary

    The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic vision for the center, for establishing its priorities, for fundraising and for its overall management and leadership. The appointee will work closely with an external/internal Board of Directors who will provide guidance and oversight to the center.  Depending on the background and the expertise of the successful candidate, appointment to a faculty position, teaching assignments and/or scholarly contributions to leading academic journals is also possible.  The appointee must be a visionary leader who will formulate, drive and coordinate a wide variety of programs and initiatives related to health care systems innovation.  The ideal candidate will be either a seasoned academic or business/government executive with an interest and background in healthcare who is comfortable in both an academic and a business environment.  The successful candidate must also embody OSU's mission as a land-grant university and must lead through respect, humility and intellectual curiosity.

    Required Qualifications

    ·         An academic, business or government background in healthcare.

    ·         A record of accomplishments in healthcare and healthcare related areas and the clear promise of continued productivity.

    ·         Visibility in the area of healthcare, including a deep professional network. 

    ·         Knowledge of healthcare industry issues and an understanding of the trends in the health sector.

    ·         Experience managing teams.

    ·         Experience interfacing with external stakeholders in the health care area.

    ·         Strong communication and relationship-building skills with all levels of employees.

    Preferred Qualifications

    ·         A DO, an MD, a PhD or another doctorate.

    ·         Prior experience building new organizations or new units inside existing organizations from the ground-up.

    ·         Experience in IT-related healthcare solutions.

    ·         Prior fundraising experience, including writing grant applications.
