Management Ph.D. from the University of Alabama
The Department of Management & Marketing in the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama is now accepting applications for our Management PhD program for students starting in Fall, 2012. More information, including details about our admission procedures, are available at our website (http://manderson.cba.ua.edu/academics/departments/phd_program/management) or by contacting our doctoral coordinator, Jonathon Halbesleben, at jhalbesleben@cba.ua.edu. While we will accept applications at any time, those who apply by January 1, 2013, will be given priority. Applicants are automatically considered for an assistantship, which includes a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and laptop computer.
World-class faculty
We pride ourselves in our faculty, with recognized authorities in areas such work-family issues, franchising, organizational citizenship behavior, strategic alliances, employee well-being, and dynamic capabilities, all of whom maintain active research streams that involve our students. Our faculty members are also highly visible in the field, with two former associate editors of the Academy of Management Journal, a former editor of the Journal of Management, the incoming editor of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and representation on the editorial boards of top management journals. We recently expanded our faculty dramatically with the goal of further raising the profile of the department and Ph.D. program.
The attention you need to succeed
We have an intentionally small program in order to foster faculty and student interaction. You will work closely with faculty from the moment you arrive on campus (and sometimes before!) to produce research for publication in high-quality journals. As a result, our students have published in the top journals in the field, frequently presented at conferences, and have won numerous awards for their research.
A vibrant, growing research university
The University of Alabama is the flagship campus in the state with over 30,000 students living and studying on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Recent growth in enrollment and an emphasis on research has given UA significant research resources. The Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration is frequently rated among the best in the South.
A great place to live
Tuscaloosa is a thriving community of just over 90,000 residents. It was recently named the "Most Livable City in America" by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. It has also been named one of the best cities to launch a small business and one of the best communities for young people in recent years. The city has a strong dedication cultural and performing arts, having recently completed a new amphitheater and working to complete a new cultural arts center. The variety of shopping and restaurants is exceptional and Birmingham is just a short drive up the highway. If you are in the mood for a road trip, Tuscaloosa is a short drive to Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, and the stunning Gulf coast beaches. And you haven't experienced college football until you have been in Bryant-Denny Stadium to see the 14-time national champion Crimson Tide!
