CFP: Geographies of Entrepreneurship in Developed and Developing Economies
Ben Spigel: Department of Geography, University of Toronto
Elizabeth Mack: School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning,
Arizona State University
Over the last several years, geographers have become increasingly
interested in entrepreneurship. Research on this topic has been wide
ranging and is critical in understanding how the growth trajectories
of different communities, regions, and nations have been affected by
local entrepreneurial activities. Such perspectives have gained even
more importance in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, as
regions are increasingly turning to entrepreneurship as a way to
create sustainable growth. Recent work on this topic has covered a
wide variety of topics that range from examinations of the factors
that predict regional levels of entrepreneurship to qualitative
studies of the social and cultural underpinnings of the
entrepreneurship process. However, despite such recent advances, the
field still remains open and in need of critical analysis and
development. This session is designed to reflect the diversity of
research on entrepreneurship. We welcome both theoretical and
empirical papers that address such topics as:
*Entrepreneurship and regional economic and social resilience
*Entrepreneurship in developing and transitional economies
*Transnational perspectives of entrepreneurship
*Technology transfer and academic entrepreneurship and spinoffs
*Socio-economic contexts and entrepreneurship
*Connections between entrepreneurship and regional economic development
*Diverse national and regional experiences with entrepreneurship
*Social entrepreneurship and neo-liberal economies
*Alternative and non-traditional forms of entrepreneurship
