    Dear ENT colleagues,

The notion of "new combinations" is central to Joseph Schumpeter's view of an entrepreneurial economy, and more recently a key element in the emerging theory of entrepreneurial bricolage. Allegedly, new combinations facilitate new creative breakthroughs. If we believe in this, we should believe it may apply to our own domain as well. So if we cross-fertilize two areas of the Academy that have previously developed separately – Entrepreneurship and Operations Management – who knows what will come out? If you're interested in exploring possible answers, you should attend the PDW outlined below!

ENT Division PDW on "Integrating Operations and Entrepreneurship," Saturday, August 4, 12:30-3:30 at Westin Copley Place (rooms Essex North-Center & East).  Program session 323 (co-sponsored by OM, BPS and TIM).

This PDW aims to help management scholars identify promising research possibilities at the interface of Operations and Entrepreneurship.  Speakers and panelists will assess the current state of research, identify major research opportunities, introduce promising theoretical perspectives and describe novel methodological approaches.

Editors of the Journal of Operations Management (2011) and Production & Operations Management Journal (forthcoming) special issues on the operations and entrepreneurship interface will present key learnings and research frameworks.

Established scholars from the ENT, OM, TIM and BPS divisions will then discuss topics including:

    ·         business opportunity identification and evaluation under uncertainty

    ·         operations strategy for new ventures and growth-oriented firms

The PDW features considerable interaction between presenters and audience members, and concludes with facilitated networking and consideration of next steps.
