Entrepreneurship Centers Investigation

  • 1.  Entrepreneurship Centers Investigation

    Dear ENT division colleagues,

I have recently started an investigation about University-based Entrepreneurship Centers from US and other countries. This project is being sponsored by Sebrae (which is the Brazilian equivalent to American SBA). The main objective of the research is to understand the large variety of activities these centers conduct and define a prescriptive tool to evaluate ECs in Brazil as well to serve as a reference to those Universities willing to settle their own ECs.

Most of my ECs contacts relate to American Business Schools. I would like to count on the wide variety of Entrep listserv contacts to get in touch to other Entrepreneurship Centers, including family business centers, franchising, innovation centers, incubators, small business and others from US and other parts of the world. We are also targeting not only business schools but also engineering schools, social sciences schools and others, although I know this listserv is primarily related to business administration schools.

I have a team working with me on the field data collection and we plan to send a SurveyMonkey link to those who accept to participate on this project.

    ·         If you are a Center Director, please respond this message directly to me hashi.marcos@gmail.com with some initial information of your center.

    ·         If you participate on a Eship Center at your school, please send me a message with the basic information of the Center and also I would appreciate an introduction to the Center Director for further information about the Center activities.

    ·         If you know any Center or similar from any university in any part of the world, please forward this message to the Center member or director or send me an email address to get in touch with them.

In parallel, I am reading the few articles I have found about ECs (Finkle, Kuratko & Goldsby (2006); Clouse et al (2009); Menzies (2009); plus presentations of Gartner et al (2007) and Byers et al (2004)).

I really appreciate any additional contributions  that could help me on this research.

I assume the commitment to share my findings to those who contribute on the data collection (The final report will be launched in October in Portuguese. An English version is supposed to be ready by February 2013)

As I will also be in Boston, in August, for the AoM meeting, those of you interested in exchanging ideas about Eship Centers roles, just let me know and we can arrange an informal meeting there.

    Best regards
