CALL FOR PAPERS: “Revolution in a Bottle”

The second issue of ENTER (Entrepreneurial Narrative Theory
Ethnomethodology and Reflexivity) will focus on “Revolution in a Bottle”
    by Tom Szaky.

The issue will be edited by: Helle Neergaard (hen@asb.dk), Geoff Archer
    (geoff.archer@royalroads.ca) and William B. Gartner
    (William.b.gartner@gmail.com)

Manuscripts should be submitted to all three editors by June 1, 2013.

Many of us have used “Revolution in a Bottle” for teaching
    entrepreneurship, environmental entrepreneurship and social
    entrepreneurship. Published in 2009, this easy-to-read, non-fiction
paperback tells the story of a pot-smoking Princeton student who dropped
out to found a fertilizer business. Along the way he shoveled mountains of
annelid excrement, maxed out his credit cards, partied naked at the
office, evaded the police, was sued by massive incumbent firms, turned
down a fortune in venture financing, moved into a terrifying slum,
negotiated with big box retailers, mobilized thousands of school children,
and demonstrated the economic viability of ‘upcycling.’

The boundaries for a contribution to ENTER are subject to two limitations.
    Manuscripts must:

    1. Have something to do with (or) discuss in some way (or) use as data:
    “Revolution in a Bottle”

    2. Be a “riff” (your improvisation, your personal “sense-making,” your
views, that is, the article should reflect you as an author) on:
    “Revolution in a Bottle”

“Revolution in a Bottle” touches on a broad range of social and
environmental issues, and has an autobiographical form that provides ample
opportunities for scholars to riff across: levels of analysis, a variety
of theoretical perspectives, values and ethics, economic rationality as
currently viewed (in the book) and entrepreneurial learning. Significant
insights into the ontology of “social entrepreneurship” and the nature of
“environmental entrepreneurship” are likely to emerge from close analyses
    of the Szaky book.

Examples of the wide scope of articles that can be generated through
“riffing” can be found by looking at the first issue of ENTER, which is
    available for free download at:

    http://www.clemson.edu/cedp/cudp/pubs/enter/index.html

The first issue of ENTER focuses on the book “The Republic of Tea,” which
consists of a series of faxes among the founders/authors about the
development of a business called “The Republic of Tea.” If you are
interested in such topics as -- the creation of an entrepreneurial
identity, using metaphors and analogies in entrepreneurial creation,
real-time versus retrospective story telling in entrepreneurial
narratives, the application of complexity theory to entrepreneurial
narrative, a model of evaluation for venture creation, the
social-psychology of opportunities, the dynamics of time in venture
development, and the process of idea generation -- it will be worthwhile
to read the articles in that issue.

Please contact the editors for guidance and encouragement if you might
consider submitting an article on “Revolution in a Bottle.”
