2012 FERC
Family Business Doctoral Student Consortium

As there are still a few places available for the 2012 FERC Doctoral
Consortium, we are extending the application deadline until Monday 5th
March.
The Doctoral Consortium is open to students at all stages of their PhD,
including those who attended last year's inaugural consortium.
This year's event offers a new set of great speakers and a number of
valuable networking opportunities for all participants.

Following a very successful inaugural consortium in 2011, the Family
Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) is pleased to announce its second
doctoral student consortium as part of the 2012 FERC, hosted by the John
Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada (see
2012 conference).
Objectives: The consortium seeks to encourage doctoral students interested
in the scholarly study of family business, particularly as it relates to
meeting and interacting with future colleagues and receiving feedback on
their research initiatives and potential dissertation topics from scholars
active in family business research.
Program: The consortium will include presentations and discussions on a
range of topics related to family business research and education
including: appreciating the distinctive nature and challenge of family
business research, engaging in a successful career as a family business
scholar, research methodology, and the challenge of publishing
family business research.
Consortium faculty: The 2012 consortium faculty are Alex Dawson (Concordia
University), Allison Pearson (Mississippi State University),Rebecca Long
(Mississippi State
University), and Richard Gottschall (Concordia University).
Start/finish time: Activities will begin informally on Thursday evening
(10th May) with (optional) drinks. On Friday, we will have a full day
starting at 8:15am and finishing at 5:15pm.
How to apply: Interested individuals must be enrolled in a doctoral
program with an interest in family business research. Attendance is
limited to 20 students. Interested individuals should apply
on-line by March 5, 2012 by submitting the following documents
together in one document:
(1) A cover letter with the name of the student, doctoral program in which
s/he is enrolled, major and current status in the program;
(2) A CV (maximum one page), including a complete mailing address;
(3) A research paper (20 pages maximum) from either the student's
dissertation or a current research project (please add 3-5 keywords listed
after the abstract).
