Years ago I saw the need for a certain type of simple educational software to be used in university entrepreneurship classrooms. Now, as a center director I want to pursue this niche using some few thousand dollars in my center's budget to develop the software and then sell online to students across the U.S. and Canada. Personally, I would like to receive a royalty, because this was my idea in the first place. My university has a creator owned IP policy, so this vision is fine except for the conflict of interest aspect. To expedite this conversation with my Dean I am looking for comps that might help us set a reasonable royalty rate. Do you receive royalties from a book or software that your university published? What are those rates like?
Thanks for your input,
