CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: 2012 CAREER SERVICE AWARDS

    Dear ENT Listserv subscribers:

Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Career Service Awards sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management.  The Division's Career Service Awards are meant to recognize a small number of individuals and organizations each year who have made extraordinary, long-term contributions that advance the mission and interests of the Division.  Please consider submitting a nomination for the Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award:

    THE DEDICATION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD

Given to individuals or organizations for activities that have significantly advanced the field of entrepreneurship.  (Up to 3 awards are given per year.)

This award honors individuals and organizations that have exhibited a long-term pattern of exceptional activities that have significantly advanced the development and/or visibility of the field of entrepreneurship.  Nominees need not be members of the Academy of Management.  The award may recognize activities that advance the research, teaching or practice of entrepreneurship as well as activities that advance the growth, visibility, and effectiveness of the Entrepreneurship Division.  This award is not meant to recognize research accomplishments on their own (e.g., by recognizing individuals for the number or quality of their research publications), nor is it meant to recognize mentoring-related accomplishments.  However, the award may be given to individuals or organizations for activities that have advanced entrepreneurship research in broader, more indirect ways than through publication or mentoring.  People who have made mentoring contributions, in particular, may be eligible for the Mentoring Award instead.

Selection criteria for the Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award

Those eligible for the Award shall be either individuals or organizations that have significantly advanced one or more of the following goals:

    i.                    Developed or enhanced the professionalism, impact or effectiveness of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management; OR

ii.                  Increased the visibility and development of entrepreneurship in the broader society; OR

iii.                Improved effective communication and collaboration among entrepreneurship researchers, public policy makers and/or practitioners.

Individuals must be living (and organizations must be extant) at the time they are nominated to be eligible for this award.  Candidates for the Award will be evaluated according to the relative degree to which they have, throughout their careers or to an exceptional scale, engaged in one or more of the activities described above.

    Selection process

Nominations for the award will be reviewed in accordance with the above criteria by a special committee convened by the Past Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management.  Winners will be announced in May and awards will be presented with a plaque in August at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management in Boston.  As in all award categories, the Division reserves the right to not confer an award if adjudicators determine that no award is warranted in a given year.  Nominations received in a given year that do not result in an award will automatically be considered for an award during the following year's review cycle as well.  However, nominations that do not result in an award for two consecutive years must be re-nominated to be considered further.  Such re-nominations are welcome, provided they are accompanied by up-to-date documentation.

How to nominate someone for the Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award:

To nominate an individual (or organization) for the Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award, a complete packet of supporting documentation should be submitted to Prof. Per Davidsson, Past Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, no later than April 10, 2012.  The complete packet will include:

    • A copy of the candidate's Curriculum Vita, if the nominee is an individual,
    • A detailed listing of the candidate's activities that are relevant to the award criteria.

The entire packet should be sent electronically to Prof. Davidsson at per.davidsson@qut.edu.au.  Whether or not the packet materials are obtained directly from the candidate, it is the responsibility of the person(s) writing the nomination letter to ensure that the nomination package is complete.

    Best Regards,

    Per
