    Call for Papers - Developments in rural entrepreneurship - 10th Rural Entrepreneurship Conference, 31st May to 1st June 2012, The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.

    2012 marks the tenth anniversary of the Rural Entrepreneurship Conference. Over this last decade there have been significant advances in what we know and understand about our fascinating topic and the Rural Entrepreneurship conference has played a part in these fostering these developments. The conference has grown from being a Scottish affair to attracting interest from an international audience. The scope of our topic has broadened from descriptive work on rural small business to engage with new areas and develop new concepts.

    This presents an opportune time for looking backwards (reflecting on changes) and forwards (predicting and identifying potentials) and very appropriate for celebrating the anniversary.

    Accordingly we invite you to join us at Aberdeen Business School to take stock of our research stream and consider developments in rural entrepreneurship. We invite contributions from all those who are interested in rural entrepreneurship. We welcome theoretical, conceptual, empirical, descriptive and practitioner papers that will enhance our knowledge and understanding.

    Paper topics may include:

    • Continuity and change in the rural;
    • Contrasts, comparisons and continuity:
    • Local-global; Regional-national; National – international;
    • Elements of rural entrepreneurship and enterprise;
    • The nature and practices of rural entrepreneurs;
    • Rural entrepreneurship in different countries and contexts;
    • Policies and their implications for rural entrepreneurs;
    • Understanding and conceptualising the rural; and of course the classic, what is the rural in rural entrepreneurship?

    In the spirit of the conference other relevant themes are most welcome. Abstracts and papers will be reviewed and allocated to an appropriate track.
