    AoM Professional Development Workshop:
Collecting Data for Quantitative Methods of Analysis in Social
    Entrepreneurship Research

    Presenters:
    G. Tom Lumpkin, Syracuse University
    Jill Kickul, New York University
Geoff Kistruck, The Ohio State University
    Miles Zachary, Texas Tech University
    David Gras, Syracuse University

The field of social entrepreneurship is currently characterized by an
overreliance on qualitative and small sample studies. While such a makeup
is both beneficial and common in nascent fields, the progression towards
quantitative, large sample studies is crucial in extracting generalizable,
rigorous and valid findings useful for a wide range of practitioners. The
goal of this PDW is to educate scholars on information and tools available
for collecting data for quantitative methods of analysis in social
entrepreneurship research. We present five topics towards this end. They
are: 1) Extant exemplars of published quantitative studies, 2) Online
sources of data and social entrepreneur contact information, 3)
Opportunities in partnering with associations, foundations and other firms
to locate and work with social entrepreneurs, 4) Issues and methods
regarding primary data collection, and 5) Creative methods in drawing data
from text-based sources such as news articles, blogs or websites.

    Time & Location:
    Saturday, August 13th, from 1:00pm-3:00pm
San Antonio Convention Center, Room 008A

We hope to see you there!
