    Apologies for cross-postings.

We would like to invite you the following symposium:
The Emergence of the Cleantech Sector: Institutional Actors, Innovation, and Adoption (TIM, ONE, ENT)

"Cleantech" is an umbrella term that has been used for industries that focus on different technologies offering products and services with minimal to no damage to the environment. Over the past decade, a convergence of institutional, political, and technological forces that include growing environmental concerns, refocused public attention on oil dependence, and breakthrough innovations in clean energy systems, have brought clean technologies to the cusp of radically transforming existing industries with energy at the center stage. In its present state, the Cleantech sector represents a fascinating exemplar of a nascent industry – the tracing of whose development can enable us to develop a deeper understanding of how new industrial sectors based on innovative technologies emerge. In this symposium, we showcase four research projects that highlight the significant role played by different institutional actors – regulators and policy makers, customers, and private investors – in the early stages of sector emergence. In designing this symposium, our intent is to showcase the emerging Cleantech sector as a fruitful context to build and extend theories that span the innovation, institutions, entrepreneurship, and organizations domains as well as encourage greater collaboration among researchers who are interested in this nascent industry.
